You’ll often hear me say that humans can be Spirit Animals because we are, in fact, classified as animals. What are your thoughts on humans being Spirit Animals?

ooh cool question. If you believe in reincarnation, there may well be a prominent animal in a person’s spiritual make up. And, of course, we all have access to the Spirit Animals Within. So, I’d say yes.

I’ve often associated some people with animals (ex husband as a weasel, former boyfriend as a cheetah). So to jump on Trish’s point, I think we call on our Spirit Animals and then take on their characteristics.

Yes we can! Haven’t y’all ever heard of “I wish I could be more like you when it comes to that” well you can you can call on that energy of a person just as you can the energy of any other animal!

I do. I believe whenever a person brings you strength, an inspirational thought or word, or heck even just a smile sometimes that lifts your spirit… that person became a spirit animal for you in that moment.

If we are “calling” on the energy of a person, would that require permission? Just thinkin’ outloud

Yes, absolutely. For myself, a human who presents to another as a spirit animal is someone that calls forth an aspect of the “other” that has been seemingly lost…like for myself, Bernadette showed up as a spirit animal for me by being her authentic wild and free self (not carefully calculating her words to avoid conflict or rejection and not restraining her natural way of being in this world to fit in) and so much more…gosh you are a radiant and vivacious human 🥰❣️…I was/am touched by her humanness, moved to embrace my own authenticity, and inspired to carry and embody these once hidden, however truly innate, characteristics of the divine within me and hold a mirror to those same immutable qualities in my fellow humans.
I’ve been blessed in my lifetime by many human-animal-spirit type relationships or even brief encounters; in my experience they seem to appear during or prior to pivotal points of growth and expansion.

Hmm good question…I would think so! Doesn’t seem ethical not to ask for permission! I think when people are unaware of energy transfer no foul but if your calling on the energy of another you are obviously aware so asking for permission prior makes sense to me!

What if the person one is speaking of has passed on? What if one resonates with and is inspired by the the lifetime experiences of Gandhi or Helen Keller? Wouldn’t the studying of and reflection upon such examples be naturally amplifying and inspiring? Would one ask permission to look within and recognize the unity and connection with another and move forward inspired?

Love the questions and thoughts! If your looking within for a connection to move forward inspired that doesn’t seems the same but totally love the deep thoughts on the subject! Each situation would require each individual to use their own discernment!! What feels like is the right thing to do for you in that moment.

I agree with what you are saying. We are two-legged animals. From what I’ve learned, there is only a small difference, in one strand of our DNA, that separates us from our Primate relatives.
That being said, I personally tend to keep a separation in my head, only to make it easier for me. I tend to include humans, living or already passed, in the category of guides, but have animal guides in a special group. I also have a group for Angelic guides, and deities as teachers and guides as well. Technically, humans and the winged, 4-leggeds, insects, and water beings, are all animals. Sometimes I need a smaller breakdown, and sometimes I am good with the bigger category. But, for someone to argue against humans being Spirit Animals doesn’t make sense for me because humans are animals.

I not only believe I have been animal in a past life (many actually) I predominantly have been big cats (cougars/panthers/jaguars), but I also know I have a coyote, elk, eagle, hawk (red tail), Owl (Snow) spider (big and a complex weaver), rat (desert) house cats (various breeds).

I have also been in my past lives a hug tree – specifically Baobab, Redwood, and a type of tree that I do not believe exists anymore. I’ve even feel I have been plants (both indoor and outdoor), The energy there is very different.

I have honestly not ever thought about it, BUT I don’t see why that couldn’t be the case. We are animals, like you said, so it would only make since that people could be a person’s animal spirit

I like the idea of permission coming up in this discussion. I ask permission of all beings, animal, plant, elements, and elementals. In my practice, invoking, calling upon, and all the other related terms, implies I am inviting and asking. Even before learning more about ethical spiritual practice, and recently hearing it taught about specifically asking, I seemed to naturally understand that I am inviting and asking, not demanding. In hearing it taught about approaching Nature that way too in this regular life, not in spiritual and prayerful types of practice, I made an adjustment to include asking permission more specifically and consciously. Now, whether in real-time space, or in Journey space, I ask if I may enter that being’s filed of energy. For example, even to touch a tree, or smell a flower, or pick up a stone or something, I don’t just rush in like I am the entitled human anymore. We don’t like it when other people just come at us and invade our space, even if they want to give a hug, so what makes us think Nature beings of any type feel otherwise? So, I ask permission in one way or another, by asking to step into their field of energy, and/or inviting and asking when “calling on the energy” of any being (which includes the Elements). We see that when we create Sacred Space, we invite and ask the Spirits of Air, Water, Fire, Earth, Mother Earth, and Father Sky to join us, and for what we would like, and for their Energy to be present etc. So, why would it be any different in any other situation?

After this meditation experience – I am re-thinking a lot of things, including consent, asking permission and thanking for the energies.

Maybe eating blessings were meant to be more….
